At Gumtree Medical Practice, we are committed to providing high-quality medical care while meeting all Medicare compliance requirements.
While our practice operates on a private billing basis, your doctor may choose to bulkbill some or all of your consultation fees where appropriate.
From 1 July 2026, Medicare requires practices to obtain and retain patient consent when a Medicare benefit is assigned to the treating doctor for a bulk-billed service. Evidence of this consent must be stored for a minimum of 2 years.
To ensure we comply with these new requirements we are introducing a process for obtaining consent following eligible consultations. We are currently testing different methods to determine the most efficient and convenient option for our patients.
Where a consultation is bulk billed, we may send a consent request by:
To allow us to process Medicare claims on your behalf, we ask that you respond promptly to any consent request you receive. Consent should be completed by the patient or, where appropriate, by a parent, guardian or authorised caregiver.
For requests sent by SMS or Email, consent must be provided by 9:00 am on the next business day following your consultation.
If we do not receive the required consent within the specified timeframe, we will be unable to process the consultation as a bulk-billed service.
The consultation will instead be charged at the applicable private fee rate, and any outstanding balance will need to be paid before further appointments can be booked.
Dr Tomas has been working in Dubbo as a GP for over 20 years. He is the founding owner of Gumtree Medical Practice and commenced the practice in January 2008.
His view was to provide accessible health care to the residents of West Dubbo.
He provides a Skin Cancer treatment and removal service which is comprehensive and affordable. Dr Tomas has completed advanced training in Skin Cancer Medicine and is Accredited by the Skin Cancer College of Australia.

Dr Zahraa Sadeq has worked at Gumtree Medical Practice since January 2013. Dr Sadeq provides an affordable Skin Cancer detection, and treatment service and has completed Advanced Training in Skin Cancer Medicine and is Accredited by the Skin Cancer College of Australia.
Dr Shanti Nanayakkara
Dr Shanthi Nanayakkara moved to Dubbo from Alice Springs in 2010. Dr Shanthi completed her training prior to moving to Dubbo with her family.Dr Shanthi has a special interest in Ante-Natal Shared Care and as a GP looks after many practice patients including Residential Aged Care Facility - Bracken House.
Dr Asha Jacob
Dr Asha Jacob commenced working at Gumtree in August 2008. During her time at Gumtree Medical Practice Dr Jacob has developed a loyal patient base.She has a special interest in treating children and currently works Monday's and Tuesday's at Gumtree.
Dr Thein Tun Zan
Dr. Zan commenced working at Gumtree in February 2021 and has completed his GP training. Prior to moving to Australia, he worked in Jamaica for eight years. Following this, he worked in Alice Springs for three years, where he gained extensive knowledge in Indigenous health and culture. Dr. Zan offers affordable skin cancer detection and treatment services, having completed a Diploma in Skin Cancer Medicine and an Advanced Certificate in Dermoscopy.
